!George Washington Miskimins was oldest son of James and Mary Fulle rMiskimins. He and wife Sarah are buried at Strawn Cemetery as are J ames and Mary-no stone. (handwriting of Aleda S ). George Washing ton Miskimins came to Shellsburg Iowa area in the spring of 1850 fro m Zanesville, Ohio. He came by way of the Ohio River to Cairo thenc e upthe Mississippi to Keoku,. From there he footed it to this count y. The first 3 years he worked for $10.00 per month and 8 months fo r $12.Then went to improving his land. Shellsburg was not then in ex istence. He has 110 acres of land valued at $13,300.(1878 presumabl y Censusrecord) He married Mary J. Moody in 1856. She was born in Ca rroll County, Ohio 24 Feb 1823. They have two children, Amanda born 1 9 Dec 1857 and Mahala J. born 3 Apr 1861. They lost two children Edwa rd born1 Jan 1860 who died 26 Jan 1860 and Lizzie born 26 Mar 1864 .
